When is the 48 Hour Writing Marathon?

Opening ceremony is Friday, June 26, 2020 at 7 p.m.. Closing ceremony is Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 7 p.m..

You said something about getting published?

Yes. Not A Pipe Publishing will publish an anthology with some of the works from this.

Will everyone who submits get published?

No. Our organizers, Taliyah St. James and Benjamin Gorman and a third, as yet un-selected person will choose pieces from the event to include in the 48 Hour Anthology.

Is there a cost?

Yes. Registration is $30 per person and $15 for students. The registration fee gets you a free copy of the anthology.

What if I can’t afford that?

We have a limited number of hardship scholarships. To apply, send an email to notapipepublishing@gmail.com. The subject line should read: 48 Hour Scholarship. We’re using a lottery system, and we’ll email everyone who applied with results.

I don’t have and do not want to have a Paypal account? Are there options for me?

Yes. Send an email to notapipepublishing@gmail.com with the subject line 48 Hour Payment and we’ll work with you.

What’s the fine print with our work?

If you are not selected for publication in the anthology, you keep all of your rights to your piece. If you are selected, Not A Pipe Publishing asks only for first printing right, you keep the rest.

Where is the marathon happening?

Homebase will be Strange Flock Gallery, located at 609 Gold Ave. SW, in Albuquerque. It’s important to note that the building is not mobility friendly.

Do I have to write at the gallery?

Gods no. Every writer has their special writing spot and we wouldn’t want to take that from you. But we editors will be there if you need help, and you can work there if you’d like.

I can’t attend the opening or closing ceremony. Can I still participate?

Yes. We realize there are many reasons a writer may not be able to attend. Let us know when you register and we’ll work with you remotely.

I live outside of Albuquerque. Can I still participate?

Yes. This marathon is open to all New Mexico residents.

What if I don’t live in New Mexico, but I want to participate?

Send an email to notapipepublishing@gmail.com. You can’t participate in this marathon, but we hope to bring this to other cities and states.

Will your editors be available if I need help?

Yes. We’ll be at homebase to help writers who need it.

What if I can’t get to homebase for help?

We’ll have remote options as well.

Can I pre-write my piece?

No. If everyone did that, it would be just another anthology, and that’s not what we’re going for.

What if I pre-write my piece and don’t tell you I did?

The opening ceremony will include the big reveal of the writing prompt and guidelines. Editing it to fit the criteria will probably be at least as much work as writing from scratch, so why bother?

I have a writing partner/favorite editor/artist I work with. Can we work together on this?

Yes! Co-authorship, editing, and even artwork/photography (provided it’s done during the 48 hours ONLY) is allowed. Every member of your group must register, and they should list the team name on the line provided so we can link all of you.

How do team submissions work?

Team submissions will be judged together, so either your whole group makes it into the anthology or none of you do. The flip side of this is that all team members who make it in the anthology will receive named credit for the story (i.e.: written by, edited by, art by).

I’m an individual who wants to support this, but I don’t want to participate. What can I do?

Individuals can donate to our scholarship fund by emailing notapipepublishing@gmail.com with the subject line Scholarship Fund.

I want to support this through my business. Are there options?

Yes. We have sponsorship opportunities that range from in-kind to monetary donations. For more information, email notapipepublishing@gmail.com with the subject line 48 Hour Sponsorship.
